In French, Ombré literally means "shaded." Typically when we refer to the word, we mean a gradual blending of one color into another, usually from a lighter variant to a darker one. Rather than exploring and developing pitch material in a piece, Ombré explores the different colors and shading available to the ensemble, utilizing a rather traditional set of pitches and melodic material.
